The Appalachian Region

The Appalachian Region follows the spine of the Appalachian Mountains in the Eastern United States from southern New York to northern Mississippi. It includes all of West Virginia and parts of 12 other U.S. states: Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Appalachia is a region with a rich, distinctive heritage and abundant natural and cultural assets, offering something for all travelers. Some people visit the Region to experience its natural and recreational beauty. Others visit for cultural heritage enrichment, including its unique art, music and craft. Most visitors combine their interests, creating a multi-faceted experience.
